Born in San Diego, California, Parker is the oldest of three children born to her parents, Capt. Bridget O’Malley-Buchanan and Capt.Kate O’Malley-Buchanan. Her mothers are both accomplished doctors in their own right, Bridget serving as an instructor at the academy and Kate as Captain of the medical response vessel Kodiak, located within the Beta Quadrant.
Parker spent most of her growing up years with her half Bajoran mother Kate, while her younger sisters lived with her other mother, switching every other mission her parents were assigned. When not on a ship or space station, the family spent time on earth, at Bridget’s family homestead in the black hills of South Dakota.
Parker flourished in school, excelling in math and science and would often be found with a book in hand when not following one of her mothers on their rounds in sickbay. Eventually falling in love with the profession herself the older she became.
During her time at the academy Parker excelled in her studies, exploring every option medical provided, finding she liked surgery over ob-gyn, and emergency over over surgery. Which led to more time with a textbook than her classmates, save a small, select group. Parker graduated with honors from the medical academy, and after a time spent doing internships at Main Medical, was given her first posting on the USS. Valor as a medical officer.
It was while serving on the Valor, that Parker came face to face with the war that involved so many of her Bajoran relatives. Part of a six man team rushing to supply ground support to troops needing evacuation, the shuttle was shot out of the sky, crash landing on the planet below, a few clicks from the troops location. It was soon evident that only two of the six had survived as Parker and her fellow medic pulled themselves from the wreckage.
Knowing they stood a better chance surviving with a larger group, the two medics rushed to join the very ground teams they had been sent to assist, finding the first unit mere moments before being ambushed by Cardassian troops. Retreating back to the downed shuttle, the rag tag unit was once more surrounded by the same Cardassian soldiers. Before the Cardassian leader could speak, Petty Officer Tarrin hurled a photon grenade in the Cardie’s direction, initiating what would become a blood filled skirmish before the young doctor’s very eyes.
Doing her best to provide treatment while using her body as a shield to protect her patients from the flying shrapnel, Parker did not see the Cardassian coming up behind her until it was too late — she was grabbed from behind, the Cardassian moving in for the kill, when her will to live kicked in. Struggling within the Cardassians strong grip, she managed to momentarily escape by slamming her heel down on his foot, elbowing him in the abdomen, before shoving him with every ounce of strength she had left, backwards into the ravine behind them.
Her relief and freedom were short lived however, as the soldier managed to grab her by the sleeve, pulling her with him into the ravine, both sustaining injuries from the fall. The sheer will to survive consumed her as the Cardassian soldier struggled to his feet and tackled her, sending them both to the dirt as they rolled around, the doctor doing her best to keep his hands off her face and neck. It was with one such roll that she saw it, a small knife hanging from his belt, right as he got a hold on her neck and began to squeeze.
Bringing her knee up, the young doctor landed a good blow to the man’s reproductive organs, causing his grip to loosen enough for her to suck in a breath and make a grab for his knife and before she could give it much thought, reacted–shoving it into his side hard, pulling it upward and repeating the movement again and again, until she finally realized the Cardassian wasn’t fighting back and her fellow medic was pulling her off of the dead soldier and towards the shuttle that had been sent to retrieve those still alive.
She would keep her nose to the grindstone, as the saying goes, as she steadily worked her way up to the position of Chief Medical in just under ten years of service, an accomplishment her parents are very proud of. Never once talking about what happened on the Valor, and not planning to either, Parker is keeping her sights on her goal, and figures she needs to hold out for another ten years before applying for a surgical posting at Main Medical on earth, her ‘dream’ job.
Close to her family, she participates in monthly subspace calls if she’s able. Has yet to find the ‘one’ and settle down, and secretly is okay with that as she is married to her career, but some nights do get lonely. Keeps her personal life extremely separate from her work life.
